Have you ever been inspired by history? Do you want to know more about what life was like in the Nordic countries during the Viking age, and are you interested in role-playing games? Then this is the event for you.
“Korpkvädet” is a live-action role-playing game (LARP) organized by the Fenno-Swedish roleplaying association Eloria, inspired by old Scandinavian sagas. It will be run on July 5–9 2023 at Järnåldersleden in Malax, Finland.
The LARP takes place during a fictionalized version of Finland in the 10th century AD. Four clans are gathering at the sacred thing site known as Hravnavall, where they once every seventh year gather to solve disputes and to hold a blót to honor their gods. However, certain things are different this year. The clans have suffered seven long years of famine, war and tragedies, and their jarl, the leader of their community, has died. Now the clans must unite in peace, or leave Hravnavall as bitter enemies.
During this LARP you will play as either a member of one of the four clans, or as a servant of the gods of Hravnavall. You will be given a rough outline of your character and then you will be free to develop it yourself, with the help of the organizers.
The language of “Korpkvädet” is Swedish, but English and Finnish speakers are more than welcome to partake in the LARP, as English, Finnish and other Nordic languages can be incorporated into the game. The LARP is thus open to everyone regardless of their background, but a rough understanding of Swedish is necessary since all textual information of the larp is produced in Swedish only.
The signup opens on August 21 2022 and can be found here. Besides the larp itself, there is an opportunity to participate in one or more of the many workshops that are available to participants.
